I have just installed a Volvo bow thruster. I have wired it all up but i have a small problem the thruster will only work in one direction. when i use the joystick to change direction I can here the solinoid click but nothing else. Ive connected the battery lead direct to the electric motor and it will go one way but when i change the wire to the other pole nothing happens. does anybody have any suggestions. Ive looked at he carbon bushes and they seem to be OK
Thanks

Is it getting volts actually at the motor? If not then something is wrong at the solenoid end, outside the motor casing. If yes then your problem is inside the motor

If you reverse the polarity of the motor it should go the other way .. Thats all the relay is doing .. Changes the polarity fed to the motor .. Are their any circuit boards in the motor .. Do you have a wiring diagram ..

Not necessarily - I don't know this particular bow thruster, but unless it's a permanent magnet motor, you have to reverse either the field or armature winding connections (but not both) to get it to reverse.

The thruster is actually made by QL. I bypassed the solinoid and attached the positive wire directly to the terminal on the motor. It works fine one way but when i change the wire to the other terminal on the motor nothing. I think ill have to check that power is getting to the motor on that terminal. Im pretty sure that the solinoid is working fine as i hear it click.
I seem to recall some time ago that sombody had a simialr problem with another thruster?
