Hi

I am thinking of putting stern thruster on my Fairline 36

I only have 2'9" Draft so most of boat out of water with Flybridge

When windy nightmare reversing into tight berth. A couple of weeks ago broadsided it across 2 boats no damage but... half crown....2 bob.... sixpence

I also think in future will go in forward and reverse later.

If I do fit not sure if it will effect the planing of the boat and also where to fit etc

I already have bow now thinking of stern to make life easy in tight spots.

Have twin engines so easy to manoeuvre but when windy so easy to loose control {just a massive sail}

Ok ... just title said Bow and then you referred to stern... which confused a simple mind like mine..

I'd hazard to guess that most of this is is to get you that "get out of jail free" card.... and whilst engines will be capable of doing the job, you'd like the addition of a thruster... (have thought about it myself as we have 45 ft and no thrusters, but struggle to justify it.... for the odd time I may have needed it..).

First of all, look at what manufacturers recommend, and then go one size up or more... once the wind gets hold.... the smaller ones will just slow down the movement and will struggle to fight the wind ... Do consider hydraulic as they can run for prolonged periods..

Then next question ... is this a Turbo 36 or another one?

Hi Alf

Fairline Brava 36

It has trim tabs so not quite sure where to fit

Also as on Thames need to be careful of depth

I have grounded it once this year

Thanks Your Help

Now all I have to do is sort out stains on Gel Coat

Boat was in Majorca they must have left some detegent ?????? or clean fluid on deck without washing off sun baked on left marks in Gel Coat

Worst place side decks lots of marks.

I am as we speak having Teak decking put on sides because impossible to remove marks I know a bit anal but you know when picture not straight cant cope have to put right.

I am going to rub down with 1200/1800 and polish to get rid of rest this seems to do job but a lot of work hence teak on side decks
