Bow thruster battery & wiring

The manual for mine says it is good for around 3 minutes continuous operation (not that I envisage using it for longer periods than you). After about 3 minutes continuous running an overheat device will stop it, and then limit it to running around 10% of the time until it's switched off and allowed to fully cool.

We have no protection whatever... the simple reason is to keep the BT available regardless of conditions. That said, I keep to the 15 second self imposed « rule ».....

Protection is usually built in to the thruster itself, usually thermal protection against excessive use, plus time-delay to prevent rapid changes of direction.

Not in our case. We use 2 seconds from port to starboard... if not.. we can lose the propeller... BTDT! The BT was designed and built by Amel and does not have any safeties that we know about. Mr Henri considered that a time/temp limitation could place a vessel in a hazardous situation. I do not believe any Super Maramus have ever had a problem because of this. They are very large electric motors!
