Bow ladder pulpit modification

refit continuing - anybody any suggestions on how to modify the pulpit and install a simple bow ladder for bows on boarding? Not wishing to purchase an expensive ready built - just a DIY but functional/robust system ??

A lot of boats just have a piece of tube, about the dia of a scaffold pole, running across the bow, lashed down to the toe rails, sticking out 12-18" to one side. A boarding plank is then lashed to the pole and is free to swivel up/down with the boat.

Here's ours - the ladder is Lalizas and clips into a wooden beam between the pulpit rails. It's only advantage over the 'pole' solution is it's further forward.
