Anyone going to be watching the air show by boat next week?
We are heading across from Weymouth to poole quay haven thurs-Sunday.
Hopefully the weather will be favourable!

Previously, to the East of the pier there has been a strictly enforced exclusion zone which kept you about 400 metres off shore. I don't think there was one on Poole side. There forecasting a Northerly wind which will help keep the swell down, unfortunately though, there's a lot of boats and not all of them are aware of the wake they produce ?.
It's nice being away from the crowd in your own space but some of the action is quite hard to see.

I've been a number of times but always watch from the end of the pier (it's a corporate thing). Always entertaining although there is a slight wait between the various flypasts. The anchored boats do seem to roll a lot and I'm not sure it will be particularly comfortable onboard. It's a great display though and do try to stay for the night show which kicks off around dusk and also the fireworks. A great atmosphere which I'm sure you will pick up on the water.

We have normally anchored near Bournemouth pier but each year they are extending the exclusion zone, this year (weather permitting) tempted to go futher out and nearer to the centre line (roughly half way between piers). As said before it can get rather rolly depending on swell and considerate (!) boaters ?. Check your anchoring as more than a few times boats have broken loose and drifted (not great when close together) I think it because most of us “locals” are not use to anchoring in deeper waters. Finally check your FM radio (not vhf!) sorry can’t remember frequency as there is an air festival broadcast which helps you feel connected to the display.
