problem will be getting the EA to dredge it.

EA will say that its out of channel and hence landowners responsibility.

Not that they dredge the channel either mind /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

the owner is definatley aware about the issue of the mooring. From what I have been led to believe, he has a complete new jetty and decking area ready for boats (as he really wants the boating community to be part of his client base), but I believe that someone close by is kicking up a fuss with regards to some legal issue about who owns the river bed or something similar

This was an email last received last night by freind Sarah from Stanley & Thomas. Looks like they are keen.

Dear Sarah,
Thanks for your e-mail.

The pontoon was the first area that was to be addressed and the plan for a brand new pontoon is ready to go.

Life not being as simple as that we are currently being prevented from doing anything due to legal complications being put in our path by a third party.

We have every intention of renovating it as returning Boutlers to the boating community is something that we are desperate to do but for the time being I’m afraid it’s a case of watch this space.
Kind regards
Paul Dennis

In the meantime, what are the options for mooring near there then.
I know there are a few moorings by the road on the left as you head upstream to Boulters, although alot of it seems to be sign posted for the trip boats that moor there.
Can you actually moor up on boulters island somewhere then? I have never taken the boat up to the right of the lock (when heading upstream) towards the weir - what is the depth like there and can you get up to and moor on the island there?
I know when we have gone for walks on the island in the past, there is a small channel round the back of the tea kiosk (you would need to go through the lock upstream and then do a right back on yourself, once you get to the top of the weir) - could you moor up there?

The interest charges on £2.5m works out to around £400 a day.

Therefore the first £400 income each and every day has already been spoken for, and that excludes all the other running costs.

I'll certainly go there, and believe in keeping everything afloat along the river (Not ON the river, just along it LOL) but can't see it working.

The Fat Duck....Oh dear.

Having sampled Ramsays place, and walked away much poorer, but most underwhelmed, I have no desire to indulge in the culinary musings of a madman.

However you dress up Snail Porridge, it's hateful 'Nouveau cuisine' a nasty throwback to the '80's and along with all the rest of the pathetic drivel served up, no match for good rustic food, well prepared and lovingly served at a realistic price.

Imagine how your Boat engine would feel if you poured in 25ml of 'Hand reared fully synthetic Dolphin-fat-derived lubricant with a side dish of grilled toenails' instead of 6 litres of Duckhams...

Incidentally, Ramsays executive chef was so upset by my comments, he invited me back, and the result was far more palatable, but still bettered by a Chinese takeaway.

I too, wish them luck! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you doing Ramsay down? Blumenthal owns the Fat Duck.

I thought the video was good and it would be a bonus to be able to moor there. And the real ale selection is excellent!

Any visitation comments should be reported back here please.

skindles next

anyone if there are any plans to restore / convert the old skindles hotel site further down stream

gen_skindles.jpg

I thought it got bought by developers a few years ago, but nothing seems to have happened. Another prime site for a restaurant / hotel. Although I'm sure it will eventually get knocked down and replaced by boring apartments

Tee Hee

So are you coming tomorrow night or not old fella?

Actually, no.......but not because we dont love you !

Re: skindles next

Ah! Skindles, many a happy night spent there, moored right outside, treated right royally and enjoyed the Disco. These were the days when even Pheran wasn't an old grouch and Tony could do up his own shoe laces. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: skindles next

Was up for planning to be a MacDonalds at one point, then the River Thames Society reported in their quarterly mag that the plans had been thrown out.

It is a criminal waste, I cannot see how it could not make money as a decent hotel/restaurant - fantastic location, loads of moorings outside and as others have said in an area where there is still money around.
