Bosun's chair??? and hauling aloft single-handed.....

Re: Bosun\'s chair??? and hauling aloft single-handed.....

Prussik knot?

Please explain - or let me know where i can get a diagram of this one?

On this theme I had another thought - has anyone tried a caving ladder - hauled aloft on the halyard and secured at the foot?

Incredibly useful tool, riding turns, mast climbing, and once you've used it you will find many uses for it.

(nicked diagram of Scouts site,be prepared etc)

2nd edit, just to clarify, diagonal line represents Halyard or what you want to secure knot too, squiggly bit is prussik which is usualy fashioned with loop of line.

Tightens as you put tension on it,and as symmetry suggests works in both directions, unlike a rolling hitch.

FWIW I've used prussik knots to climb 12 feet up the mast. It was OK, but I wouldn't want to use it to climb the whole way up. It was very hard work moving them up (and down) the halliard.

I've also used climbing jammers to get to the top of the mast. A Sunday afternoon stroll by comparison!

There is a ladder manufactured that works the same but has a fin that you haul up the mast track. American company that gave me a quote.. about £300 I vaguely remember...
