Bosch tool battery

Can anyone recommend a good third-party brand of battery for my 14.4 volt Bosch drill. Non- Bosch are generally less than half price of genuine part but I have no idea if they're any good. :confused:

Me too - 14.4v Bosch drill excellent but batteries absolute rubbish.... Been quoted as much for a replacement battery as the drill cost with the two (rubbish) Bosch-labelled batteries included. Certainly don't want another useless Bosch one.

This is not a Bosch issue - I think you will find the cost of replacement batteries being almost as much as a new drill is is very common amongst most makes of drill. Best to get a deal at the start where at least 2 or better still 3 batteries are included in the price and if buying new now, go for Li-Ion rather than Ni-Cad.

My drill came with 2 batteries - one dead withing six months, supplier refused warranty claim. Other battery lasted 9 months: now one battery will work for 2-3 mins if charged just before job, first one to die now totally useless.

looking at getting a Li-ion drill to replace - will mean though chucking away a barely used and nice to use Bosch drill.

You could try these people www.toolbatteryrefill.com

or you could refill yourself with NiMH instead of NiCads.
NiCads for power-tools should be considered a contravention of Trades Description, though ideal for some applications power-tools are about as far from that ideal as you can get.

I "persuaded" Makita to replace my NiCads with NiMIH which have x3 the capacity (they are of greater dimensions) and work perfectly well.

Whilst you can obtain LiCo battery operated tools, they're usually very small and very expensive, because of the cooling problems with lithium batteries in any serious Ah capacities.
For serious use one needs at least an 18v system.
If you think Bosch batteries are a ridiculous price you need to look at the prices asked for the more professional de Walt replacements.

+1, I got two Lio 10.8v there via Amazon for my small "difficult space" Bosch so I could have 4 for extended working, they were less than the price of one, are 1.5ah instead of the Bosch 1.3ah and have proved reliable despite getting quite a bit of hammer.

It is indeed and it's well worth looking at US sites for a breath of rational economics - surprisingly transport costs are little different to EC ones.
It's great to always have 230v ac. That's what I use @ home in the UK - but anchored off Methoni?
