After 4.5 years of use and with a long cruise pending I feel it is time to renew and double my domestic battery capacity. The current domestic battery is a Bosch 140ah with fat thumb sized pillar terminals and moulded lugs at the base that allow simple metal clamps to keep the battery in place. This is a Bavaria fitted original 2004.

Can anyone suggest how I can source a like for like replacement with the same clamp arrangement? Internet searches fail to highlight Bosch brand 140ah wet batteries.

It sounds like a standard car battery which are often clamped as you describe. If you have the part number on the battery try ATS or similar battery supplier. Or Megabatterystore who may be able to help you or speak to your friendly Bavaria dealer?

I replaced my domestic battery last winter on my Bav 36. Bought the same Bosch battery through a motor factor (Camberley Autos). Clipper Marine were no help at all.
You may also be able to track down a Varta equivelent through Tayna batteries or a similar battery supplier. The motor factor route is the cheaper option though.

I spoke to Malcolm the Hat at Haslar marina today who confirmed this is a fairly common clamp arrangement. He thinks Exide or Bardens have the same but it is odd that all internet links I found show photos of batteries without similar camping lugs.

This is of no surprise, the old Opal suffered a major disconnect between the sales and yard commissioning operations.
