Whatever your policical views you have to admit that London's Mayor is a colourful character. Take his idea for a new London Airport in the Thames estuary for example. The proposed man-made island, dubbed Boris Island, is supposedly to be made from domestic refuse and other landfill material - phew, no worries about polluting the sea then!

However, the best bit centers around the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery lying off the coast of Sheerness. Local MP and former Transport Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman said today that to fulfil Boris's plans would mean the SS Monty being removed. OK that may not seem too much hassle but the Department of Transport and MOD risk assessments reckon that all of the Isle of Sheppey inhabitants would have to be evacuated during the task - which could take months. For those not in the know, Sheppey has ten or twenty thousand residents.

Happy days!

Most of whom are expendable so don't bother moving them!

I lived there for a while; before anyone starts flaming!

BoJos plan for world domination Pt 1.

Personally would have rather liked them to build any new airport at the Isle of Grain,it is a desolate hole featuring no less than three power stations a liquid gas terminal and a vast sprawling container terminal surrounded by 1950s estates with all the horrid square roof extentions and stone cladding you can handle.
However the locals bleated long and hard to preserve this blighted corner of England whos only claim to fame was a bit in one of Dickens books about what a dump it was.
So my second choice will be have to be Sheppey, preferably leveling Leysdown first just to make the world a better place to start with. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If i remember correctly if the SS R.M were to 'go up' it would send a tidal wave over Southend in Essex too.
If they could give me a bit of notice so i'm not cycling along the seafront at the time, that would be handy.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
