Got back to the boat tonight on the town quay at 10.30ish, 4 or 5 rafts of 4 or 5 boats. Sat in the cockpit with SWMBO and a curry and now having a beer. Not a sign of life on any other boat, not even a light. You can't tell me everyone has gone to bed because they need to catch the tide tomorrow. 10/15 years ago, everyone would have been sat out in their cockpit with a beer socialising and chatting, what went wrong and when did they turn into a boring bunch who turned in early?

Maybe they're all charter boats and they're all drinking themselves silly in town and will all storm back at two in the morning and party and socialise till the sun comes up.

But then, people complain about that too...

Maybe they were in the town enjoying themselves.
10:30 too early to return to their boats?

Quite a few boats, like us, cruise with young children and don't have much choice about an early return to the boat! However, they could still sit out late in the cockpit?

Its probably the lack of kids that lets people stay below! Certainly when my daughter is onboard drinking is in the cockpit once she is in her bunk weather or not...

Other reasons:
Bigger boats where you do not sleep in your dinning area, so if one goes to sleep all do not have to go on deck.
People see the eating out and drinking out as part of sailing more than in the past.

We are not as young as we once were.
