I'm doing coppercoat so have to get all the old antifoul off.

The previous owner said there was only one coat of antifould after a blast off down to fibreglass, so I thought I'd do it with chemicals.

2 coats and 2 jetwashes later there's still plenty on there and I'm bored of it now - whats the best stripper?
 
Are you sure you want to go to copper? We had the hull professionally stripped - soda blasted and then professionally primed and treated with copper.
We have been a bit let down disappointed by copper - looked like we'd done nothing at the end of last season.
This is 2nd season and looks very slimy. We'll see what it's like this season in a couple of weeks.
 
Crappy, horrible job as you have discovered. That is why you pay a professional to blast it of otherwise you may compromise the application of your expensive new coating.

If you do want to do more yourself, try Water soluble Nitromors. Paint it on, put newspaper over it, let it dry and AF will peel off. Repeat without the paper and wash off with a high pressure jet.

Get it blasted off.
If I remember the test that one of the rags did some time ago, although the blasting was expensive it was very little more than the only serious strippers and none of the hassle.
 
I used Interstrip on a boat of mine. The trick is to paint it on nice and thick then cover it with cling film so it doesn't dry out and leave it overnight. The next morning you should be able to scrape it off easily. I only learned this after following the instructions on the tin, getting nowhere then speaking to an International technical adviser. I suspect the same technique would work equally well for Dilunet etc. You can see some photos and a write up on this on pg92 of this month's (December issue) MBY.
 
I've given up. £150 of chemicals gone already and a patchy boat so I rang a blast off guy.

He told me I can't coppercoat now, too cold. Coppercoat instructions say it's got to be warmer than 8 degrees when you put it on but don't make it clear that its got to stay warmer than that for the whole cure period - ie it can't dip overnight - or the curing process will stop and won't resart.

So that's a coat of cruiser uno to last till spring and a few hundred quid down to experience.
