The Border Force patrol boat "Alert" seems to be spending a lot of time safely tucked up in Shotley Marina. Shouldn't it be out catching the bad guys?

She went up to Ipswich yesterday and came back downriver at lunchtime.
I heard her speaking to Ipswich on 68 and was confused as I assumed that it was the TH Vessel Alert which also comes up the Orwell from time to time.

According to the Shotley website, the "Alert" went in yesterday for an overnight berth, but the webcam shows she's still there now.

Saw her coming up the river at Southwold the other week just after the cruise ship had left.
Did wonder why she has rib style tubes as they're so far out of the water, so apart from offering a permanent fendering solution I can't see the point.

One of the knew CPVs, I think Eagle has been very active around the Swale and Southern parts of the Estuary over the last two weekends although, I haven't seen it this weekend. Maybe they have the weekend off!!

I dunnno about ALert, but the times we were Ramsgit way the big boat only goes out Monday - Friday, because obviously illegals don't try at the weekend...

Or indeed at night, which is why the "Alert" gets a cosy marina berth for the night I suppose.
