What a waste of space they are !

Going abroad used to be easy, fill in a form, and post it in your dedicated marina post box as you cast off.
( C1331 http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channels...Forms&propertyType=document&id=HMCE_CL_000428 )
Return and post the other half in the same box .

But not any more........

similar form but has to be completed 10 days before you depart to allow for postage delays,

How do you know when you are going (weather forecasts are not that good) and how do you know how much wine/gin/champagne swmbo is going to load on.

Alright, I managed it by giving swmbo a shopping list but how often does swmbo take in such important issues

Next issue
on return you have to phone the border agency, alright questions not too complicated but at the end I am told to take down my Q flag and immediately post the form back to them to an address he is about to pass onto me..........have I got a pen and paper ready, no.
have I got an envelope, no
have I got a stamp, no

where the L do I find a post box, no car to drive round, we are anchored off a remote beach.

Drop the tender in and go for a walk to look for a post office, find a pub instead, have a meal which puts things into prospective ;)

Reason for posting....

you might want to keep a few envelopes and stamps on board and wait until you are close to a post box before you phone them ;)

As far as I am aware the C1331 form has changed slightly already.
As far as I am aware the yellow customs boxes in and around your marina are no longer in use.
The C1331 form now requests that you post it to them before you sail allowing for post time ( I used 10 days, they dont specify ).
The new C1331 form gives you a number to call on arrival back in the UK, when I phoned them I was told.....................as above.

where is the troll or sick joke

you can suggest I got it wrong, perhaps I did.
you can suggest the the border agency got it wrong perhaps they did
buts its not a sick joke or intended as a troll.
please download the form and read it .

woodstocks post appears to shine a little light in the right direction, it would appear others also found the system unworkable.

I returned well after the 20th July though and still experienced difficulties as above but again I am left wishing I hadnt bothered to post :(

I followed the link. Is anyone tempted, like me, just for devilment to ask for in Braille or on an Audio casette....

I wonder how many people are bothering to do this ?

I know "a friend" who went to the CI's this year and didn't bother with any of this

Anyone clever than me, who can set up the poll. Perhaps people could vote as to what "their friends" did this year whilst going on hols..

Just to clarify a few petty issues here.......

I said the Yellow boxes around your marina are now obsolete, this was a slip, the boxes in the UK are Navy not yellow ( Thats the CIs).

When I last returned from the CI ( April) I phoned the Boarder Agency and I was cleared over the phone. I dont recall them asking for the form back but we were in a marina not far from civilisation so it wouldnt have been a problem anyway.
it was this last time in August they wanted the form back and that presented a problem.

It would appear the form has been changed again since July 2010 and now does not demand the form arrive with the border agency before you cast off.
this helps a little but still leaves the problem on arrival back in the UK if you are not close to a telephone network, post box and possibly post office if you are not prepared with an envelope and stamp on board.
