Boracol vs Patio Magic

Basically Boracol (particularly the industrial version) is stronger. If you treat the deck every year, and algae hasn't really got hold, you should be able to get away with PM. Otherwise use Boracol until the deck is looking nice.
We paint Boracol on with a brush, neat. Two coats. Make sure the second coat dries properly or the effect will be diluted.

A few years ago I suggested PM to someone who had just bought a boat with teak decks that looked more like a dark green lawn than teak. She wouln't believe that scrubbing wasn't required but just followed my instruction to apply with a brush and just leave for a couple of weeks.

Completely stunned when everything had gone on her next visit. The deck only needed a wash with warm water and soap flakes. So PM does seem to work on a deck that's almost covered in Algae. Not a big surprise given the effectiveness of the active ingredient. So still worth trying PM as it is pretty cheap (or just buy the active ingredient, 50% BAC if you have a small fleet to treat).
 
Thanks for all the replies which have proved very helpful. Including VAT & delivery to Ireland Boracol would come out at about €80 vs €35 for PM locally, so I'll try PM first and see how I get on.

Seems expensive for PM, I bought mine from Amazon for about £10 for 2.5ltrs incl. del. in UK. I bought a spare a couple of years later as I was taking the boat abroad but still have half the original 2.5litres left + 2.5litres unopened. So 2.5 litres might be enough.

I remember the supplier quoting extended delivery times but they were sent in a couple of days each time. Same thing when I suggested it to someone else, they told me it arrived the next day.

You can pick it up for that sort of price in any large DIY warehouse and most garden centres. I bought some at Homebase a week or two ago.
 
Patio Magic for me.
Now that I am in Greece I don't get the green algae, but it made a huge difference initially getting the darker mildew out of the grain, making the decks much "whiter" meaning that they could be walked upon in bare feet in the mid day sun.

Spray on and leave - simple. Best done before you go into the water as it is very toxic to fish.
