My boat is in comission all year and she does get a bit grubby, especially over winter. Like a muppet, I left the (furled) genoa up all winter, thinking I was going to use her more than I actually did! So there's now a bit of green staining on it in a few places near the leech.

I used Boracol on the canvaswork (dodgers/sprayhood/stack pack) earlier this year and I was very impressed with the results. So a simple question...can I use Boracol safely and succesfully on the sails? The sails are only a couple of years old so I do want to be careful.

Thanks in advance...

Any mould cleaner based on benzalkonium chloride should be equally effective.

Boracol has the advantage that it also contains disodium octaborate which is an effective insecticide so will o protect your sails from death watch beetle, woodworm etc.

It also contains ethylene glycol, as in antifreeze, to aid penetration. Provided this has no detrimental effects on sails there are no problems, only benefits, in using Boracol.
