On Moodys these are painted. I used International Toplac - a couple of coats - and after 3 years they are still great.

It may depend on whether the stripe is in the water or above it. On my last boat the water came up into the boot-top, so I used Blakes' boot-top paint, which was sort of OK. On my current boat the water does not quite reach the boot-top when moored and so the enamel paint only needs a wipe clean from time to time. The most successful boot-top I knew belonged to a friend who saved up a quantity of transparent TBT before it was banned and used it for years.
