Possibly one for VP.

I have twin TAMD41A engines and have 2 boost pressure gauges to fit. These have small dia plastic pipes that obviously need to go into the inlet manifold air stream downstream of the turbo. The only point where I can see a blanking plug is on the top of the turbo housing itself. Not sure what that is there for. Is it a viable place for a boost gauge to be connected? If not where?

Hi

I know you mentioned you have 41A's but I doubt if there is much difference to my engines.

On my KAD32's you connect via an blanking plug on what I call the inlet manifold, (on the top in the middle) Volvo call it an air intake pipe. It is quite a large thread and need to make an adaptor to suit small bore tubing.

The plug on top of the turbo is the coolant jacket so don't remove it.

The hexagon plugs on the inlet manifold is a good place to tap in, you can buy the correct plug that's s tapped out 1/8 npth

The correct vdo gauge from Volvo is electric and employs a sender to sit on top of the plug, you also already have the wiring in the loom to both lower and upper helm if that's what you have, no need for pipes, t pieces and manual gauges etc.

I must admit Paul I thought the plug on top of the turbo might be into a water jacket but I could not see any other on the manifold. I will have a more thorough look tomorrow. If there is an electric gauge this would indeed be better than plastic pipes etc too. Will contact Volvo agent. Thanks for the info.

There not cheap!! If your fitting two gauges per engine remember to ask for dual station senders as there different from single station units.

Noo..... Only one! Its an Aquastar Ocean Ranger but no flybridge. If the VDO electric ones are that expensive I already have the mechanical ones so might just find the tapping point and make up an adaptor like Peanuts says. Don't see any reason why not do you? Helm panel is not that far from the engines after all.
