Book for dinghy sailing son

In my uni. team racing days,(long, long ago), Eric Twiname was the guru. His books,eg "Start to Win" , "Dinghy Team racing", etc are probably still well worth reading, although they will be out of date in some respects. I think some of the rules are perhaps less cut-throat these days. Have a look on Amazon.

I expect he will be team racing so tactics are as important as boat speed....he will need a book on that too. I dont have a good recommendation though, perhaps someone else will provide that.

Mr son is joining the university dinghy sailing team. He is crewing rather than helming. Although I have Rig and Sail trim this is primarily aimed at yachts. Is there a good book on how to crew a two man dinghy?

Thanks

My (relatively recent) memories of uni sailing lead me to suggest....

Erm.... Er.... Some sort of book on Vodka? Or a more "parental" suggestion, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Team-Racing-Sailboats-S-Tylecote/dp/1898660514

A book on how to impress rubber clad ladies with minor acts of chivalry such as pulling their boats up the ramp, offering them the sofa when staying in a random house the other end of the country, or not drowning them, would also be worth it's weight in gold.

However, unless your son has been sailing dinghies on inland lakes in January and February for years your christmas shopping will be easy - just buy the warmest looking hats/gloves/boots you can find.

Having done a fair amout of team racing in my university days and the occasional amounts since then the book to have is written by Steve Tylecote, Team racing for sailboats and is very much up to date, the Twinane book is a fine introduction but the game has moved on considerably since then. Flaming has all the really pertinent advice detailed above. Some of the best sailing and socialising! I ve done.
