After months of trying to cure a leak in the current Bomar hatch on my boat and removing it and cleaning it up and re-sealing with sikaflex, I've removed it again to replace the big round seal with proper low profile rubber, I've replaced the handle rubber gaskets that C-quip very kindly sent me for free but still the little Bu@@er leaks. A continuous drip down the handles and onto the bed. So I've got to the stage where I am going to replace it

Now here's my dilemna, do I got for Bomar again at £300+VAT+ Delivery (exchange rate doesnt help at the mo !) or do I go for a very similiarly sized one from Trend Marine at £204 + VAT + Del. Lead times are about the same for both.

Hole aperture for the Bomar N1139 is stated as 518mm round and Trend Mk4 (515Circular) is stated as 517mm

Does anyone have any experience of fitting a different hatch or would they advise against. I dont mind spending a bit more money if I end up with a hatch that doesnt leak and I also dont mind spending more for a better hatch either. Also would anyone know if there would be much buggering about with the internal trim rings to make it look tidy inside after fitting the other make ?

Have not replaced hatches, but I have 2 Trend hatches in my cabin roof, and they are excellent quality.

Boat is now 7 years old, and not problems with handles or sealing. I have Vetus portholes, and not so happy with them.

Not sure if this helps, but good luck with the selection.

Bomar hatch

Contact Mainmarine.... poster hereabouts..... he stocks the correct seal for Bomar hatches. You need to join the ends of the seal with a dot or 2 of superglue.

My hatch leaked when I bought the boat , but replacing the seal cured 90% of the leaks, then take the twist handles apart (it only needs a cross-head screwdriver) and replace the 'O' rings and add a smear of vaseline to them.... re-assemble and hey presto no leaks!

Has been leak free ever since and a whole lot cheaper than a new hatch.

Hi Tico
Have tried that, new seal, blog of superglue to keep the ends to gether

Also new rubber "O" rings under the handles

Still leaks !!!

Thats why I'm that Fed Up with it I'm now going to replace

As an update I finally went for a Lewmar size 22 hatch from Seateach (who are currently doing a deal on them) Delivery was quick and price good. If anyone else is considering changing hatches I was a bit concerned that it would not go well with the previous Bomar internal trim ring etc.. and look a cac job. Well it was really easy to fit the new one although a bit of a bugger getting the old one out and the best thing was it was only £250 delivered as opposed to Bomar which would have been closer to £400 delivered
