I wondered if anyone happens to know what the exact size bolt is I found missing off my water pump. Did a service on it a couple of months ago, obviously didn't give the bolts enough welly as one has dropped out to be lost in the bilges, and the other two were loose. It's one of these - the missing bolt is hidden by the impeller cover! TIA 20200222_152258 (Canva-edited).jpg

Just checked again and in my old parts list it is part 24-29 and fitted with a washer. A later parts list shows a M6 x 18mm bolt with what seems to be a flange in place of the washer.

Yes I should have measured one of the bolts! Mine don't have a flange or a washer! Never mind I've ordered some 20mm bolts, will apply washers if needed! Thanks for your help and the links! :-)

I recently replaced on my 1GM10 with M6 x 20mm bolts plus washers in 316 stainless steel. 10 bolts for £2.50 on ebay. The original 1986 heads had rusted so much there was nothing to grab on the lower bolt so I had to drill off what was left and mole-wrench off the stub when the pump was removed. Hopefully stainless will be better.

Make sure you use Duralac or similar when putting stainless bolts into aluminium. I didn't when I fitted stainless bolts and the result was serious corrosion of the aluminium casing around one of the bolts. OK, the engine is 30 years old but the mix of metals on it is a recipe for an early demise.

At 30 years old, it can hardly be called an early demise.
