I'm trying to get in contact with Bob Salmon, who used to do delivery trips and established the Mini-Transat race, first taking the Anderson 22 'Anderson Affair' across to Antigua ( long story involved here ) in the first race.

The new owner of Anderson Affair, and self - running the Anderson owners association - would love a brief chat, and to show him the boat is still good as new...

Have also posted this on 'Scuttlebutt'...

Thanks Andy,

I've read that article.

I would think Paul Peggs (on the petit bateau forum) would know of his whereabouts but right now I believe he's aboard an open 40 with Marco Nannini.

I can see many similarities between his concept of the mini transat and what it has turned in to and Blondie Hasler's concept and what the OSTAR became.

It would be nice to hear his views on such a subject and whether or not he has some empathy with the Jester Challenge today?

Cheers,

Guy.

Thanks

I've just been in contact with Bob - thanks very much to a contact here - and he's a delightful chap to chat with.

I'd been wanting to talk with him since his trip in 'Anderson Affair' ( ending on a reef outside Antigua through no fault of his own, rudder fitting failure; at least it led to improvements in the class ! ) in 1978, but only got fully motivated now a new owner has 'Affair' and is keen to learn her history, and maybe restore her racing paint scheme...

Bob's story is on the 'articles' section at www.anderson22class.co.uk

It's quite possible Anderson Affair may someday venture across the pond again by the sound of things...:)

Bob's email

I sailed my first big delivery with Bob, some 5 years ago. I do keep his email address and number cause he was a referee for me for some sailing jobs.

The email is: age_net@btinternet.com

I haven't call him in a long time myself so I don't know whether he's still delivering. Remember he must be around 75 now. That being said when I sailed with him he was 70 and had more stamina and equal strength as a 20 year old fit sailor. What do I know is that he runs a website for over 40's. His full contact details can be found there:

http://www.age-net.co.uk/Administration/contact_us.asp

If you do get to talk to him please give regards from the Spanish actor that sailed with him from France to Ireland.

Best,

Ramon

Ps/ Some of us need to get on the case of writing a wikipedia page on him. I was shocked just now to look for him and not find anything. With all the hype around the Minis, where the credit to their creator??!!

thanks for your posting here ! i know something about BOb Salmon now !
