Boatyards in Greece (aegean side)

Three nights was enough this time! Previously, nine years ago it was the usual first stop after Kalamaki & Luton Airport.

Take no notice of Bob. His humour is shot to ribbons - too much living in Athenian Greece methinks.

You carry on going North West and leave this more challenging parts of the Aegean, to us more experienced sailors, that can see and respond to danger before it happens.

If you like a place where you need to sit 24hr anchor watch, you can keep it!

Poros, Ermione, Porto Heli and Korfos are MUCH nicer places. Even the shopkeepers in Aigina are bloody rude. It has nothing going for it which is why I had avoided it all these years previously.

+1 again.We wouldn't be there if we didn't get the use of lay lines. We use it because of the convenience that the island doesn't shut down for winter, it has the ease of getting to the airport and I'm happy with the yard. A very few of the people are ok, but you are right in the fact that the Athenians can be a tad hostile, and we find Hydra just as bad also. Poros, charming place, Ermione good, Porto Heli and Korfos not for us but good bolt holes. As a tick, don't forget Ermioni, the north key is quiet compared to the south.

I don't mind Angina and find most of the shopkeeper okay, will agree with you regarding the chandler in town. He`s known as the THIEF!!!

Peak charter season, the "big squeeze", burst fenders, a second layer of boats end on to you, anchor tangles, 3am night clubs whose doors won't close properly, props chopping ropes . . .

Far better than watching television.

I'd rather pay the ferry and go to Pireaus for chandlery than give the "Thief " any of my dosh, shake his hand and count your fingers!!! Totally agree about Porto Heli though.

Seen plenty of that through the Autumm to Spring, and yes it is entertaining but only from afar! Not had the night clubs though, that's something to be thankful for.

Last time I was there I wanted two chrome hinges, marked up at 4.5euro each, went to pay handed him a 20 e note ,he gave me 6 e change. I questioned the reason why so much .His reply is classic. That`s what the new ones cost when I replace those?

Aren't you confusing these places with Hydra, JB? Is there room to "double bank" in Heli? Would you know?

Never known double banking anywhere else in the Saronic but Hydra (but we only left the area 4 days ago so what would I know?)

You've been very fortunate. I've seen Aigina at least 2 deep and Hydra 3 deep. This seems happens when the are big corporate racing flotillas are out mixed with charters and flotillas. Amazing to see, there's no regard for the chartered yachts, or anyone elses for that matter.

20 years operating a sailing centre there, listening to the feedback from a few thousand charterers. Not my opinions. And yes, I've often seen double banking there on turn around days. But my last visit was in 2010, so I may be out of date.

you probably learnt to avoid the flotilla routes, expecially on turn around days. Epidavros and Aegena both suffer. And when the south quay at Ermioni is a bit too windy, the north side suffers over-crowding.

That's a very unusual judgement of the village - goes against the opinion of several thousand windsurfers and sailors who have holidayed there over 20 years, most of whom rated the village (though not the hotel) very highly compared to Porto Heli.

Could you ask them to contact me to explain why they found the place ugly and insignificant? Too primitive? - "unspoilt" in tour operator jargon? Too quiet for older teenagers? Too many snobs? Or perhaps you could explain - assuming you've been there.

Both were CA members who you may know but I don't want to decry your homeplace. If it came over that way then you have my apologies. (However, you still aren't forgiven for your "Greeks can do no wrong" and "anti-Brit" postures in the past!)
