Hey NAS

“an acquaintance of my brother-in-law nearly beat me up a few years ago when he saw me with his friends wife”

Bet you never did it again eh.

Good luck with your new boat.

While I really do believe you about your wife/sister-in-law I surmise that several thousand others may not. This is scuttlebut after all.
What I know of the Oyster and Sigma I would not really choose one for you and the kids. They are usually described as cruiser/racers. I would go for the Moody. The important thing is to keep the whole family happy with sailing. When they get to really like it you can move on to more racy boats if you want.

Thanks Capn.... thats much my thinking!

Both the littleuns are in Oppys, learning to sail (and loving it), so I have little concern over their enthusiasm, but I agree that a nice stable comfortable ride will probably help re-inforce that!

As for SWMBO, she's up for it, but I do need to make sure that the first sail is in great conditions to strengthen that enthusiasm, not remove it!

I was lucky really.... a few years back me and the missus chartered an old tub in the West country for a week... we had one of those classic, never forgotten weeks of constant 15 knots and temperature in the high 20's.... did all the scenic locations, Dartmouth, Newton Ferrers, Salcombe, Fowey etc etc... and she was hooked!
