I have just speant hours cleaning my anodes and then Etch priming them as they are made of Zinc. I then gave them two coats of epoxy primer and tie coat and then Antifouled them. Now some idiot in the boatyard comes and tells me I should not have painted them. What a know all know nothing has anyone seen how badly they corrode when left unpainted...As if I have money to keep replacing them?

I suggest that you also make a point of priming bare surfaces with alkyd paints before over-coating them with two-pack. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My prop comes with a built in adode attached to the nut. I was thinking of painting that as well but it is so nice and shiney at the moment it would be a pity to cover it with antifoul. As for GRP I thought the epoxy was stronger.

[/ QUOTE ]It is, but you may have galvanic action between epoxy and the older polyester grp, as a result of which fitting epoxy anodes would be a retrograde step.

I need your help here! I had a big row with Peters (Volvo) earlier this year when I took an anode back, only fitted last year, all corroded. I of course expected a replacement but they would not help!

Please can you forward me a copy of your findings and recommendations, as you are clearly a man technical knowledge on this process! I can then proceed to take legal steps against Volvo for faulty goods!

After a few days of sailing in warmer climes and when fresh water for washing is running short everything begins to smell like fish even the shrouds. If you get your nose up close you can pick up the distinct smell of 5 day old shark.
Whiffy takes on a rather pleasant aroma in comparison.

Spot of thread drift....
Powerskipper will accuse you of having a one track mind!

Some while back, hlb was planning on manufacturing and selling marine grade stainless steel anodes in an effort to reduce the wear these things seem to undergo. May be worth contacting him to see if he progressed things any further. If more forumites were interested, showing a possible business opportunity, then he'd be more likely to proceed?
