Boats you can Trailer

When a boat weighs around 3 tonnes is an ordinary 4X4 (landcruiser Landrover etc) enough to get it over the step of a rotten slipway? Im looking into trailering my own boat in future. The slipways local to Sunbury on Thames appear to have such sharp drop offs at the end I wonder how many people get stuck?
Even our local boatyard are suggesting it's not safe to trailer such a heavy boat and that we should use their cradle.

Alert the media. Boatyard suggestion result in more income for them :D

Of course it s safe, as long as everthing is within specification and the law.

In the USA they tow much heavier boats than we are allowed to here. A lot more of them as well. No widespread carnage due to towing accidents. They have hills and bends there. Proper modern brakes on their trailers unlike the 1950s style drum brake we have here

The UK ( European) towing regulations seem archaic. OK, on a steep hill dual carriageway it might mean slowing down to 20 mph to be safe but hold up traffic, but tractors are allowed there and often do that anyway.
