Does anyone else have this problem?

I drive down the motorway to work with my head on a swivel, thinking that I've been passed by a boat transporter lorry taking something pretty and expensive to the West Coast or somewhere equally interesting.

Also, I check the sea state, tide and Port Ed marina for anything out of the ordinary as I cross the Forth Road Bridge.

Should I be seeking help, or am I just an interminably sad barsteward?

Before I got my present boat i was exactly the same and would go to sleep by retracing or inventing new passages in my mind. I had charts to study and update. i would travel at weekends to look at boats, bought PBO, YM and sailing today for years each month. Yup, bad bug!!

It's a nasty little bug isn't it? I also have it as does my OH. I don't know whether you catch it from each other or whether it's there when you are born, but dormant, until something starts it off.

I was born here and brought up by the sea.
When I lived in London I suffered the most unimaginable withdrawal symptoms by not having the sea at my doorstep.
It got so bad midweek, I remember going down to the Thames Embakment to look at the River Thames just to look at moving water, which made me feel better. The Round Pond in Kensington Gardens or even the Serpentine, had no effect whatsoever.
Funny obsession this, being a sailor.

Same for me, if my work takes me near my boat at around lunchtime, i always stop by and have lunch on my boat, it might be out of the water on the hardstanding, but i can see water from it !!

Come to think of it, even if i am passing when its not lunchtime, i still stop by my boat and have a look around and make a list of jobs to do etc.

Its getting to be an obsession this boat !

Forgive me, those who have seen this before...

A sailor takes his accountant chum out for a daysail.

At the end, the accountant says " so, you spend X thousands on a boat you can at best use 2 days a week ".

" No, I use her 7 days a week ".

" How so ? "

" 2 days a week I sail her, the rest of the time I dream of her "

Wherever I am in the world, on work or pleasure, if I am near the sea, I am drawn to where boats live..... I can't think of a trip in years where i've not ended up wandering around a marina or a yard...

Also, VO5... I can completely relate to that.... I worked in London for years, and most weeks, i'd find myself at least once leaning on the wall gazing out over the Thames and daydreaming of being onboard....

I don't think its sad at all. I feel sorry for people who have nothing to long for.

Wish my wife would catch it where ever it comes from.
She thinks I have an obsessive disorder and says I love the boat more that her.
She could be right about the latter but I cant tell her that can I.

I feel awful

I'm feeling particularly sick this morning.

And the bad news is that I think I might have managed to infect my son.

Therapy doesn't help and is the road to financial ruin. The minute you mention boats etc, the therapist starts to use sailing as a metaphor - all at your own expense! - and my budget is already totally consumed by the reality of boats and sailing.

But isn't this therapy? Or would it be more appropriate to think of ourselves as just a bunch of addicts egging each other on in the manner of drunks in a park?

Certainly not. Perish the thought. Everyone needs a dream, its therapy for life.
Of course, once you have a boat the dream fades for a time but returns as you want more speed/size/storage/fridge etc. Its a life long thing and I love it.:)

I thought my wife was the same until yesterday. She said," I don't know why you are messing around with that iPad, you know you can't see it at the wheel. I don't know why you don't go out and buy yourself a big chart plotter and be done with it"

Music to my ears. Have I cracked it do you think or is this just a one off?
