Boat\'s in but....

She's been re-rigged and I took the masthead light off to glue up a crack. Now the mast's up and boat's launched the light's decided not to work! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So there are three choices;

1. Climb mast and fix light. Except I'm scared of heights. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

2. Drop mast to fix. Not practical really.

3. Just live with it. The other nav-lights are working fine (or will be when I've fitted the new bicolour to the pulpit.)

Sgeir; It may be the switch or something. I tend to not fiddle with electrics but I'd better have a look. Not that I know what I'm looking for. I suppose a stray wire would be obvious.

Twister Ken; unfortunately I can't blame a yard because I can't afford to use one!

It's not as if I fiddled with the wiring, all I did was take the quick release light unit off to glue the glass up then put it back on again.

Duncan, I have the Bosuns Chair and the time, and the inclination.
Let me know and I will fix it this weekend.
And I only live in Canewdon.....

You experts probably alreasdy know and do this, but as a first timer who doesn't have a head for heights, I bought a 9V lantern battery and used it to check all the lights immediately before putting the mast up. Hence was sure that loose connection, bulb or corrosion was not an issue before it went up.
Incidentally also helped me get closer to the mystery anchor light problem - light is present, works correctly on my test, and mast connections faithfully restored - but ends up as a blank wire behind the switches as no switch was ever present from new. Why did they bother to fit the light then ?

First , the process of erecting the mast can damage or loosen a connection so although it's always a good idea to check the electrics first you can never be certain that something hasn't happened as it goes up . I've never put a mast up but I have had to deal with some of the problems caused
Second , are you sure there isn't a switch , usually linked with others so not always easy to trace
