I was wondering how many other boating folk were also keen golfers and if there are any other marinas or good moorings in the South East where your boat can be a "long iron" or maybe even a "drive and a 3 wood" from the club house/first tee?

For me one of the big attractions of my current mooring at Harleyford is the proximity to the golf club, looking out as I type this I am guessing less than 200 yds.

i play golf alot, and one day I plan to head to Hampton Court way (by boat) and have a game there. I am a member of a club which is part of the same group, so I can play there for free.

Wavedancer, do you think you could hit the 18th green from your mooring? Bit of a blind shot over the manor house, cliff and club house, but get enough elevation and you never know.

Other golf courses close to moorings:

Winter Hill GC - moorings along Cookham meadow by the sailing club (driver + wedge).
Oakley Court Hotel (9 hole) - moor alongside the hotel (in between Bray and windsor marinas) - course is wedge distance.
Eton golf course (9 hole) - 4 iron from opposite side to Windsor leisure centre (ish).
Datchett Golf club. Putter from opposite windsor bank by the Datchett / Windsor road bridge.
Hampton Court Palace (already mentioned) but a putter to the 9th (I think) from moorings.
Lensbury Club (pitch and putt) - pitching wedge from river bank.
Richmond GC - probably a wood (need to carry the Richmond Kingston road) from the moorings opposite Sion park.

Maybe some crazy golf or pitch and putt I've missed off /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Where is the one at Hampton Court?

Have you seen the Lensbury one!

Richmond GC is in the park (Richmond Park), there is one at Strawberry Hill not too far from Twickenham.

A little further upstream there is the Springs Golf Club, not all that far from Byrons. Not sure if there is anywhere to moor but the 15th is probably only a pitching wedge from the other bank (or in my case it would probably be a scuff into the water!)

Re: Boats & Golfing

The Hampton Court one is in the Palace grounds. The entrance is at Kingston Bridge with a long drive to the club house. Nice course, but full of deer who mess up the bunkers somewhat rotten!

I've not seen the Lensbury course / target pitch / converted football pitch, but hear that it is just a few holes or rather flags positioned around the pitches! At least it's short grass.

The Richmond course is the old one (members only) with it's entrance in Petersham - ok a Tiger Woods type drive required to reach from the mooring, but it is walkable from the river. Just need a member now!

One more in central london - Urban golf in Paddington Basin. Haven't a clue how a boat (NB or Freeman only?) could get there from Thames, but great way to play a round of golf, on some of the world's great courses, quality club hire available, drinks and food allowed whilst playing and no need to even spoil the walk.

I will grab a pick of the Lensbury one next time I go past I may even give it it a go they owe me a favour as I sorted out one of their hire boats yesterday saving them a trip to Hampton Court to pick it up!
