Boats.co.uk have today become the exclusive UK dealer for Williams

As you are SO good at EN you might as well become perfect and study things like difference between "which" and " that", which btw most EN natives don't know. Your "than the status symbol which is commonly associated with them" should have said "that". :D

Ah but JFM, it could have been a lot worse. It's not uncommon for less educated people to say "than the status symbol what is commonly associated with them". That really grates.

It's hard to state many EN rules that don't have exceptions, but a good "rule of thumb" to remember with this one is to think of "which" as preceding something incidental and "that" as preceding something which defines one of the nouns without which the sentence wouldn't work well.
...
Many thanks, all understood.
TBH, I'm already fearing a post in the near future where I'll forget the rule, making yet another mistake...
...but I'll have to blame just my memory laziness, not your very effective explanation! :encouragement:

Otoh, as an aside, I couldn't help noticing the peculiarity of your examples, almost borderlining on a Freudian slip. :)
C'mon J, you know you want it. Boating in style can hardly get much better than with an SD92, and I'm sure that in Ameglia they will be happy to support your wishes in spite of the already half completed boat!
And needless to say, the crewing offer still stands... :D

+1
count me in! if you allow me, and as long that IT cook is onboard,
I can offer my services as a interim shipper and as a fixer, thats what I'm used to :)

Tee hee. Hey, I'm only trying to help on the EN thing. You are so good you might as well reach perfection, and with things like "that/which" you don't pick them up by osmosis even if immersed in EN (living in UK) for decades. If you want me to shut up I will :D

The SD92 is a beautiful thing. I don't love the spec on this particular one, but it has got me thinking about the SD92 generally. And with the IT/Belgian team on offer I would need to retire immediately for the 365 day adventuring - we could get 1500 hours on her in the first year :D SL will of course build it to any spec that the customer asks. The base spec is a bit annoying actually, with absence of must-have items, but I can get over that I suppose. BTW, the design is more popular than my post above indicated - I just checked and the hull number being offered in mid 30's. Good going

As a "thought for the day", it is ballpark similar €€€ price to a Delta 80/88 :) I think I know which you would choose!

I had a wonder round SL,s at the last Cannes ,and was pleasantly surprised with the Bulid eg the FB and lower aft decks are "crowned " -not flat so,s the water can run off .It looks good too .
No ropes here just friendly " tell and show " salesman .He ask what I had ( then ) and where it was berthed .
They fully seemed to appreciate what shows are about -plant the seed -wait a few years to germinate .
I,am on the e mail chain -volunteered after 1/2 hour on a140 to give info .
Personally after 1marque I new , and know what I do not want more than what I want in a boat if that makes sence ?
Italy is presently a great place to deal re boats .
Best of luck in your deliberations .

Yeah, no prize for guessing! :D
As you know, I have a soft spot for fast boats, but only as far as they can be "driven/felt" as motorbikes, sort of.
When a boat is instead meant for serious cruising - and no matter how strongly Luca Bassani with his 118' monster creature would disagree, I can't think of any other meaningful purposes for an 80'+ vessel - imho light construction, triple IPS and similar stuff are all "no replacement for displacement", if I can steal an automotive cliché.
With all due respect for the Delta, gimme the 100+ tons (light!) and the MTUs on shafts of the SD92 any day of the week, for offshore cruising.
But all of that is a matter of personal preferences, of course.
If I should stick to a more objective consideration in commenting your "thought for the day", I would just say that I definitely know which of the two boats I'd want to have whenever in the future I should try to resell her! :)

I'll tell you what: in a few days I'll have quite some time to kill, during what will be my longest flight ever (Milan-London-Singapore-Sydney-Tasmania).
If you don't mind emailing me those specs they sent you, I'd gladly have a look at them, out of curiosity.
After all, your crew must know each and every corner of their workplace, you know.....
.....and I might as well think about the best location for the diving tank compressor.
In fact, B was humble enough to not mention it, but we all know his scuba diving qualifications, and it would be a shame if M3 couldn't exploit them!

PS: no need to shut up at all re. your suggestions on EN language subtleties.
I do appreciate, regardless of whether I'll be able to remember/apply them correctly!

Tee hee. Yup, I see your logic very well. It is hard to argue with your "If it's not 80 knots it might as well be 8", even though I am a fully paid up member of the the 23 knot club!

BTW, as regards "no replacement for displacement" in the auto world, I quite like "There aint no substitute for cubes" as well, even if it doesn't rhyme so well

When do you leave Milan for your first flight? The file is on different computer and is about 3Mb iirc and I am travelling a bit. I hope you have a flat-bed btw!

My current boat has crowned decks, both the main weather deck and the flybridge :D
