This winter's project is to put my Commando (1972 750cc in beautiful black) back together. Then as the funky moped song goes "I'm gonna ride, ride, ride.

Good for you, just don't delay. I kept my first 250 for years in the hope of putting it back on the road again one day (KH250 2-stroke triple), but had to give it away this year before it turned into a pile of irretrievable rust. Bikes are like boats, use 'em or lose 'em.

Nice bike and the ultimate "learner" machine at the time, if I remember rightly. I had a Suzuki 250 twin, but the popular learner bike around here was a Granby Yamaha 250! Ridiculous to think how you could ride those machines without a full licence or any training. Mind you we were all sensible of course.

Yup, it was the machine to have as it was the fastest in a straight line. Thats because they don't do corners, a bit like reversing a long-keeler! Something to do with the front of the chassis not quite being connected to the rear wheel. I had some memorable moments two-up with my good lady on the back: she says she could feel it squirm as we went around the corners. I ended up putting Dunlop M47s (rear tyres) on front and back just to keep it pinned to the road. I'd get about 4000 miles out of them. It did 30mpg on a good day and about 1 pint of 2-stroke oil per 50 miles. Blip the throttle and drop a cog, and you'd lay down a blue smoke screen. And we have the cheek to complain about PWC riders disturbing the peace!
A friend once took an H2 around a race track. He reckoned it deserved its name, "the widowmaker", and warned me not to even think about it.

4 1/4 litre Derby Bentley, Park Ward Coupe

Precise parallel; cost exactly the same when new and first owner did in fact own one. Looks, grace, pace and space (well, not so much space, really, but you get the idea...) Costs about the same to run, too...
