Hi,

I just finished putting together this short (2:25) clip from last summers footage and I thought I'd post it here. Lots of good material was left out but I didn't want to make it too boring so short it is.

Your bandwidth allowing, be sure to click 'watch in high quality' from just below the lower right corner of the video.

I hope you like it.

Thanks!

Fantastic vid and very professionally put together. At this time of year it reminds us why we do it and justifies the expense.
I`m back in the water Jan 9th and cant wait!
Cheers and happy new year.

I went down to the boat on Christmas Eve to check that everything was ok. I'm having difficulties in waiting as well, although it's full four months before we get her back into the water /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Happy New Year to you too and happy cruising!

I liked it, I liked it, great vid but too short, of course only imho /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Short is OK, if you enjoy teasing us /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

but longer is far better, not boring /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great video, thanks!

Tell us a bit about were the shot are from... were's the castle and the bridge and the marina..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What a well trained and happy dalmation - clearly enjoying nautical life.

Yes - a smashing video. Nice work and thanks.

These shots are all from Lake Saimaa. The castle is in Savonlinna, which is a very nice summer town. The castle also hosts an opera festival in July. It provides fantastic surroundings for it.

The marina is in Puumala, which is two hours boat ride south from Savonlinna.

The opening shot is from Puruvesi (taken at 3:15 AM), which is the easternmost part of Saimaa, only a couple of kilometers from Russian border.

Just looked-up the locations you mentioned on the map, never been to Finland before, it looks a fantastic place to cruise around. The trip from Puumala to Savonlinna looks about 50Nm but I bet the scenery enroute is breathtaking!

So some questions (hope thats OK):

1) Where's the best place to charter a boat from?
2) Will ICC suffice (without CEVNI)?
3) Best time of year to cruise?

Probably leave my Targa in the Med though!

1) I would say Savonlinna area is the best as there are lot of directions to go to and lot's of places to see. Our favorite anyway.

2) ICC should be fine

3) I would definitely recommend July as it when all the action takes place. Things start to quiet down in mid-August.

If you do feel like chartering I would be happy to help in finding a suitable craft, if you see it necessary. Some of the charter boats are a bit rugged, but there are better boats around as well.

Tourist agencies eg. in Savonlinna should also know the best places to charter.

What a day! My wife injured her back leaving me to take care of our two babies (4 and 18 months). Hard bloody work /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There is one and it lasts the whole summer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Midge aren't the problem, mosquitoes are but more so in the cottages where there is plenty of forests very close. They are less of a problem in Marinas. I haven't resorted to any repellent for ages.
