Has anyone boated along north Cornwall and north Devon coasts? I used to live there and the storms, waves and winds seemed unrelenting. Plus historically there are 100s of shipwrecks along there.
Doing some googling I found no marinas or safe places to stay overnight for 100s of miles.
Has anyone ever done a journey along that stretch of coast? Is it even worth trying?

The North Devon coast probably has some of the most beautiful places in the country but it’s pretty inhospitable compared to the other coasts.

The nearest marinas are South Wales or Padstow. Between that you have Watchet (bit of a dump and the marinas gone bust), Porlock (drying, muddy, sketchy entrance), Lynmouth (drying, not very hospitable), Watermouth (drying, relatively visitor friendly but no facilities), Ilfracombe harbour (drying, has visitor moorings and welcomes visitors), Barnstaple / Bideford estuary (zero facilities for visitors but where most local boats are moored), Clovelly (drying harbour, very pretty), Bude (sea lock is always broken).

You occasionally see visiting motor boats at Ilfracombe but they have to anchor off unless they can dry out (visitor moorings are at front left)

The real jewel in the crown is Lundy about 20nm off the coast. It's too far off for most local boats to get to, so you often have the place to yourself. You can just see our tender on the beach.

Clovelly is nice too

This was about as busy as I have ever seen it

We used to berth at Portishead marina. Our regular run took us to Penarth. Watchet was closed so we never ventured there. Padstow was the next stop, some 120 ish Nm. Great trip, but not something you might do regularly. Marinas on the south Wales coast included Swansea an Neylands. Destinations were limited so we took our boat to the Solent.
