boating online video

Don't know but there are a few rules you can pick up as you go along such as they are supposed to go pointy bit first, the whirly bit underneath is a propellor and is supposed to spin to make it go pointy bit first. It's attached by a round steel bar to a iron lump under the floor that stinks, emits clouds of smoke and steam and loud noises that also makes the plates rattle. I think its something to do with making it go pointy bit first when you hear the noises.

Apparently the iron bit has to be covered with foul smelling black oily filth, its part of the "magic" they say.

The handbrake never works so always have an old washing machine attached to the boat with clothesline so you can chuck it over the side to stop. Some people have a large stick with a bed sheet tied to it stuck on top, it's supposed to catch the wind to make it go, bit new-fangled for me.

There's a small cupboard like you get in your kitchen at home, it stinks of vomit and urine but that is integral with the bucket thingy in the middle you do your jobbies in. Apparently it's meant to give you a buzz when it and you are sliding all over the cupboard when it's bouncy outside, personally I can't see the attraction. Up front there are two planked bits with foul smelling mouldy bedding on top. These have been carefully installed in the pointy bit and under the biggest drips so they can also soak up excess moisture, all carefully thought out you'll agree and again supposed to be part of the charm of the experience. You're supposed to sleep on those and the black bin bag is to keep water from dripping up your nose.

There's a wheel mounted out the back, I've tried waggling it from time to time but whatever it is supposed to do, it doesn't so I just let nature take it's course. The lever beside it does make the noise and smoke increase or decrease but whether or not it has any other function is difficult to establish. I have found that the noisy lump is an effective smoke generator outside as well, people keep screaming things in my direction but the smoke soon hides them and the sound is mercifully then muffled. That's about it really, nothing to it. I don't know what people get all excited about, it's noisy, bouncy, smelly, you can't see where you're going, if indeed you are going, and if you jump out it's mostly wet!

I must admit that sometimes it's not wet, just very muddy and there's no water to be seen. There's probably a reason for that but I don't know what it might be. Oh, they do tell me you need some stringy bits to tie it to something so it doesn't go off on it's own but I don't hold with that as from my own experience when I did that and went off to the pub it was hanging from the side when I got back and it was difficult to let it down. There was another boat underneath when I did finally cut the string, I told the owner he should have tied it up somewhere else but he kept gibbering and didn't appear to be listening. Some people are so unreasonable.

Welcome to the forum. As i am only on my second season as a 'sailor', I understand your thirst for knowledge and i second the suggestion of you tube. If you are prepared to trawl through the obvious rubbish there are some really good sailing
videos free to watch. Also, type in 'keep turning left' for a series worth watching. Good luck
