I am of to California next month and will have a day visiting Lake Tahoe. I hope to rent a boat while I am there.

Can anyone give me a steer to a good boat hire firm and/or any tips on how best to enjoy Lake Tahoe?

Thanks.

I don't think she's available for bareboat rent, if that's what you have in mind.
But I always thought that whenever I should visit Lake Tahoe, I'd definitely spare some time for a trip with Thunderbird.

I hired a small speed boat there many moons ago and had a great day out. It was either late April or early May, not a time to, as my colleague did, go for a swim. With the snow melt the water temperature was around 41F! I am afraid I don't remember the firm we hired from but it was on the California side, rather than the Nevada one. Well worth the visit.

You are knocking on the door of in between seasons so I am not sure there will be anything for hire ? I have not looked though on this occasion to be fair. Been a few times skiing ( early and late) and been down to lake trying to do same thing but failed !

Cold and clear !!

It’s also with a drive around ( it’s not that big) the difference between North and South is clear to see with some stunning houses, views and the odd casino.

I'd definitely spare some time for a trip with Thunderbird.

I might never have remembered this, but Motor Boat and Yachting did a report on Thunderbird, at least 30 years ago. She was pretty antique then.

The only other boat which Tahoe makes me remember, is the Dragon keelboat which sails back and forth rather improbably, keen to stay in view, in the early party scene of part 2 of The Godfather.
