Boating Down-Under

My other half has two sons now living in Melbourne and, naturally enough, will be wanting to visit them. Last time she went (without me.......!) they took her to Tasmania for a few days and she fell in love with the place so I have no doubt it will be firmly on the programme when we go. I understand its a great boating area so is anyone here aware of how easy it is to hire a boat short term and what costs are like? Also, are any paper qualifications needed?
Any info at all gratefully received.

You should find all the answers on the link below. You don’t say what time of year you plan your trip, it could be a bit warm in the north or plurry cold in the south; so I have included a second link on average temperatures.
