Boating community in La Linea/Gibraltar

Anyone have info on the current situation re: anchoring by the runway ?

Not allowed any more - however you can and many do anchor behind the big breakwater to Alcadisa?? Marina - La Linea Marina. If you are on anchorage they - la Linea marina are not friendly or welcoming (why should they be?) and whilst it is a nice place to stop over for a weekend in mid winter it can be a bit daunting... The runway was more protected I seem to remember.

I thought that was the case. Thanks for the info. Will be there in May all being well.

Queensway Quay is excellent but frequently full - Ocean Village now has a big hotel ship in it but sometimes has space available... Depends on the size of your boat - email me on michael@michaelbriant.com if you want and if we are not off cruising we could meet up - Louise wants another Jack Russel to replace the last one and would love to hear how you get on with yours in the boat

You may sometimes make a pit stop on the anchor just off western beach, some friends go over there for Sunday BBQ sometimes.wouldn't stay longer.

In La linea there are signs prohibiting anchoring on the south side inside the breakwater. Bit bonkers as it's the best shelter in a westerly. Supposed to be a superyacht marina being built....long story. The Guardia will move you on.

Thanks Michael. We prefer to anchor when we can & take exception to being forced into using marinas for there financial gain. Looks like we will have no option this year, in Gib anyway,
as we have friends coming out to visit. We are just under 12M, officially :D Our Jacks have become famous in their own right. Folks seem to remember us & our boat more for seeing & playing with them than they do with us :D I'm sure they will make Louise more than welcome :D We don't have a say in the matter :D
Plan at the moment is to depart here mid April then a week or so in Seville followed with visits to Cadiz, Barbate then Gib arriving probably mid May time.
I will e-mail you nearer the time. Tks again.

Just out of interest has anyone been into the harbour at La Atunara a couple of miles to east of Gib?

On google earth it looks like there are only Spanish fishing vessels in the harbour, but there seem to be lots of swing moorings inside near the east end for small boats.

It's a private harbour, no visitors. I sometimes use it as a pilotage excersise but you we invited to leave gustily if you go in.

What about the beach area clear of the breakwater to the north, are they still clearing boats from there as well or is it just whilst shell fishing in August? Sailing club used to charge 5 euro/day for leaving dinghy and use of internet.
