Hello,

I am currently trying to find a list of boating charities, however I am having great difficulty in obtaining any. I have found information for the RNLI, which is probably the most famous. Is this the only one there is ?

I am only interested in UK based charities.

Regards,

Louis

The Charity Commission website has a search facility which allows you to specify key words. One caveat: typing in "Marine" (as an example) produces several hundred charities, but it's obviously the most comprehensive source of information.

I am a trustee of a charity called the Rebel Trust.

The trust was formed to provide a sailing platform for London Area Sea Cadets. It is based out of Walton on the Naze and has been in operation now for about 18 years.

The Trust is a RYA teaching establishment and offers keel boat training, RYA powerboat training and Yacthing.

People that attend the organisation are aged between 12-17 years of age.

We have website that you might like to visit www.rebeltrust.co.uk

If you would like contact details for the chairman then please PM me and I will forward to you.

I help with an organisation called the Discovery Sailing Project, which is a charity affiliated to the Scout Association. They also have links with an organisation called the London Sailing Project. They are both members of ASTO, and that's one source you might try for locating other organisations. I'll be happy to tell you more about our organisation if you PM me.

There are a number of organisations in the UK that offer sailing opportunities to the disabled. Try a search in Google for "Disabled sailing".

Good suggestion - I would add that the search function on the Charity Commissin website is not very accurate - it only returns exact results using spaces and capital letters etc. Try varying your search and you will eventually find the organisation you seek.

Sailing and Boating Charities

Hello, I would personally recommend the work of Sail 4 Cancer and the Ellen Macarthur Trust - both charities help British people affected by cancer.

The EMT focuses mainly on youngsters - proving sailing days throughout the UK - some with Ellen onboard.

Sail 4 Cancer provides water related day trips and short-breaks for British families living with cancer. The charity also makes grants to care centres and funds research.
