Boatfolk bought by Premier Marinas

I've been a Premier berth holder for nine years now, and have had a generally excellent experience. Obviously a few niggles from time to time, but these have been resolved rapidly. In my experience, Premier run the marinas professionally and the staff are helpful and cooperative. Definitely not the cheapest offer on the south coast though.

On the issue of communication, I gather Premier have yet to inform berth holders in Chichester Marina anything about the fire which destroyed and sank two boats and damaged several others earlier this month. They have declined to comment or provide information.

This is really bad news and I am so sorry for the lovely people at Boatfolk who have taken such good care of us, been so kind and generous to us and made our boating life so enjoyable. Many have been there for a lot of years, have given their best for the company as Boatfolk, and Dean and Reddyhoff before them, has always attracted the best in the industry.
Premier being Premier they'll probably just fire whoever happened to be on watch (by themselves) that night

I think many people never have an issue…until they do. I’ve had issues at both Premier and Boatfolk. Boatfolk sorted the issues very quickly and professionally while Premier didn’t.
Premier are the only yard ever to block off my boat so the water drained into the cockpit, ultimately leaving it full of ice 3” deep and dangerous to be on. That same time it was so far from the electric and water I may as well have been in a field. Their answer was they always block them off like that and the utilities are tuff luck, get a longer hose and cable (65m long, it turned out!!).
Premier were also dumb enough that when my power lead parted and went in the water it took two full days to reset the trip despite me carefully explaining the cause to them several times.
Premier are also the only marina that have ever put me, a berth holder, in a different berth every time I returned because contractually you don’t get a berth of your own. Answer was tuff luck. My response was “bye then”

Maybe bad news for people with boats just over 12m? Premier have that price bump at 12m for annual bertholders (which is weird because the cutoff for their short term berthing is 12.5m). Boatfolk don't. I'm guessing they'll standardise their Ts&Cs. The Premier "Extra Nights" premium might be a worry for the Haslar liveaboards

Was this all one (Premier) marina? I've never homebased with them but have experienced considerable variation between their sites when visiting. Brighton wasn't fun!

Though the most memorable thing about my interaction with them was their going to some trouble in contacting me as they discovered that I'd overpaid by c£40 for a visit the previous year and they wanted to repay the amount, about which I'd forgotten, which rather put them in my good books.

Recently had the 'bow down' issue when the boat has been on the hard standing at Deacons. Fortunately no ice.

Given Boatfolk only have the one fuel pontoon on the South Coast at Portland it would be good to have access to the 'at cost' rates on the Premier ones rather than being expected to pay more the white fuel as a non-berth holder..

But what did they do when you mentioned it? Deacons have changed things for me no problem in the past. Things will go wrong, it’s what comes next that matters

I bought two cruising bundles during last year's SIBS and Christmas offers last year.

Apparently they had some kind of system issue which meant any purchased as part of the SIBS ones were never set up properly so I had lots of 'fun' getting the invoices cancelled. Even now I seem to have been charged for two non-existent stays.

£3 is £3 more than I have every been give as credit for my home berth being empty!
You HAVE TO use the dreadful MYMDL portal to book out of your berth to get the £3 - yes it’s in the small print. Been there done that 😤 Hopefully the merger by Premier will give a kick up the backside to MDL - well ever hopefully
