Boater calls the cops, on whales.

Who'd a thunk it, coming into contact with marine life whilst out boating. What else did she expect? Isn't that a major attraction of boating, to come into close contact with Mother Nature?

This was posted on Sailing Anarchy I think …I’m going to disagree with everyone and say that I think the family knew they were in danger and were right to call for assistance. That’s my opinion

How was it going to work - were three kinds of lifeboats and a helicopter to be scrambled immediately, or would the emergency services stay on the line until the boat was capsized and then send “help”?

Last January we were out on a Zodiac off the Antarctic Peninsula with a pod of whales swimming around and under us and we never felt in the least bit threatened.

It’s a shame that somebody, presumably on the boat, saw fit to post footage on a forum, from whence it has been picked up on Sailing Anarchy, Twitter and now here. Without the attendant publicity the family could have reflected quietly on the experience over time, realised that the whales were not aggressive and their company should have been enjoyed and perhaps reacted differently next time. As it is, as at least one of them is social media savvy, they now have the benefit of the derision been heaped upon them, especially on Twitter, to add to the mix, making a positive outcome less likely.
