You only have a 52% ballast ratio because iron is less dense than lead so you need more of it for the same righting moment.

I also suspect the Bavaria is laid up with a CSM gun so strength is not equivalent to equivalent well laid up boat.

'fraid not. Have a look at the video of how a Bavaria is built, or at the various magazine articles on the factory that have been published over the years. Hulls are laid up by hand using carefully pre-fabricated packs of materials (both fibre and resin), incorporating foam cores above the waterline and Kevlar re-inforcement in the forward panels. mouldings are cured in controlled conditions. The very antithesis of "traditional" GRP construction and similar to most other modern production builders. (If you had worked in boat building in the 70's and 80's like I did you would recognise the difference)
