I went to Plymouth (320 mile from where I live) to see a boat which had a volvo inboard and a volvo outdrive leg, the outdrive leg needed attention which I did not mind as knowing their reputation I was prepared to buy a "new" Volvo Reconditioned Leg with a warranty. OK it may have added £2500 to the cost of the boat but I felt it was worth it, for peace of mind.
Unfortunately all the boatyards in Plymouth I asked to fit an outdrive leg were too busy to touch the boat, typical response was a month or six weeks before they could touch it.
When I buy a boat I want to use it now. not wait a month. so I did not buy it.
So whatever you buy if it has outdrive legs get them checked out first.
PS My first experience with an outdrive leg was in 1975 when I had bought a brand new boat with a Volvo outdrive leg. after 12 months I had to have it serviced to comply with the warranty. I particularly remember the engineer saying "I have managed to save your outdrive leg" water had got into the outdrive oil. Probably had done less than 75 hours from new.
