I am considering moving my Finesse 24 by road from its mooring in Gillingham to the Norfolk Broads. I have had one quote so far for about £700 which doesn't sound too bad. Anyone out there got any experience/recommendations of boat transport companies?

When I moved my 25 footer yawl from near Ashford to Maldon in the autumn I used Jim Brett from Sheerness (01795 668263). A really nice guy who obviously knows his stuff with a proper boat transporter rather than a flatbed (also owns a boatyard I think). Cost me £350. You'd need a crane at each end though as his rig doesn't carry one.

They are in Tewkesbury.
Moved my Hardy 25 from Upton on Severn to York in 2005
for £460.
Transport is by low loader.

I used Peter Downes who also has a self lifting trailer that does away with the need for a crane, assuming that you are not launching.

When moving a 42 ft wooden thing up to Scotland, I found John Shepherd absolutely invaluable. Custom made rig, very helpful and safe, plus the best advice I could get.

Peter Downs is who I used too. Reasonably priced, knows his stuff (got Roach - and his trailer - out of a soggy muddy field last Summer) and is efficient. Pitched up right on time.
