Hi All,

I need the Aquador 23HT moving from Bray on the Thames to the Hamble. Anyone know of a reputable transport company who use a 4x4 and have own Trailer. I can get it lifted on and off at both ends. Price is an Issue so Peters and May are out! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks

Paul

Tom,

I would except it needs moving at the end of March. Not too sure of the weather then given the time of Year. I am happy to take a week off and have all the gear but do not fancy getting half way round and getting stuck in Ramsgate! If it was later on I would try it no problem. Do you think there would be a 4 day weather window in March/Early April?

Also given boat is for sale I do not want to risk any Damage....

Cheers

Paul

The thames is no problem but you are right once you turn thr corner you could hit a bit of rough but there is always weekeends after that>?

In my opnion a boat is more likly to attract damage on a lorry then on water.

It could be the Ultimate boys trip, mind you I think TCM has the dibs on that one! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Still need price Comparisons by Land...I am scared If I take her by Sea I will love her even more and not dare sell her!

Cheers

I'm sure a couple of people on the forum started transporting boats on trailers. sorry cann't think of names.

Your point about time of year is strange. Couple of weeks ago sea state was excellent, flat sea etc. Bit rough now but that all happens in the summer as well

These are a few companies that my marina at Walton-on-Thames have recommended in the past. Peter Farrant 020 8948 4421/07836 660601 Thames Valley & Interboat 01753 622111 Geoff Houghton 07831 486710. I have used Geoff Houghton before, and I think I also used Peter Farrant when I had my Regal 2460 when I sent it down to the Hamble for a few weeks once. He uses a trailer pulled by a ruddy great Amerival 4 x 4 thingy, so saves you on yer lift fee's. I used Geoff for a low loader for the Targa 34, but I'm pretty sure it was Peter for the Regal.

You could easily spend a week or more bringing her around to the Hamble if the weather does'nt play ball and then you risk having mechanical problems which either delay you further or stop you putting the boat up for sale when it gets there. Then whilst you're doing this trip, the boat is effectively off the market anyway
Then I bet you'll spend at least £400 in fuel and marina charges which I'm guessing won't be far off the trucking cost. Sorry can't recommend any transport companies but your broker should be able to help or look in the back of MBM/MBY
Btw, one point about trucking your boat. Most truck cos only have basic CMR insurance which means that, if your boat falls off the back of the lorry, it will only be covered to a minimum £ per ton amount. You should ensure that either your truck co or your existing insurance co covers the boat for its full value in transit

I was told by my harbourmaster that you should never ring and ask for a price to move a boat. You ring them and ask if they have any deliveries in your area and would they like a return load - at a discounted price, of course.

Start by calling firms in your destination area first.

Mind you, it's more likely to work if you want a low loader!

I used Thames Valley & Interboat based at Reading for my boat transport Broads to Shepperton. (£400)
