Boat Transport - cost query

My boat requires a lot of work this winter and I was considering moving it nearer home to cut down the travelling time.
Before I start hunting down companies for quotes etc, does anyone have any idea of what the approximate cost will/should be.
The boat is a Westerly Centaur 26 ft Bilge keel.
The journey distance would be about 200 miles.

You need to look at the overall costs. ie Lift on to truck/trailor lift off. Crane hire. Some transporters can unload without the need for a crane. If you can arange some method of loading and unloading at either end a normal truck should be able to do it as a back load for maybe £200 each way. Otherwise it would probably be beter to ring a specialist

See if you can hire a trailer from local boat yard, tow it yourself or hire a good 4 x 4 diesel. Trailer hire should be about £50 for weekend and crane about £ 25 an hour. I moved a 23' hull from Bristol to Aberdeen on a hired trailer with a 4 x 4 and driver + crane at one end for £300 a couple of years ago, took alot of ringing around, some of the quotes I got were daft specially from so called expert boat movers. By the way I had to put the driver up for the night, cost a lot less than paying for him to stay in local hotel.

18 months ago I had a 28ft Queen Bee transported from Hayling Island to North Wiltshire, she weighed 7.5 tons and we had a 35 ton crane to off load her. Total cost £500 and worth every penny. She lays next to my joinery workshop, where we built a Marquee ( for want of a better term) over her. The ends of the tent are open and the sides are covered down to half height. Knowing what I know now, I would never, never, never contemplate having to travel up and down to some yard to restore a boat. Having the job on your doorstep would be an absolute must. I still don't spend enough time on her mainly due to trying to run a business as well. If she had only been 25 miles down the road the problems would be 10 fold.

Transport to recommend; Terry Ollerton, Emsworth. Crane; try someone near you and make sure you know the true weight of your boat + some and at what radius the crane will have to operate. Remember, a 35 ton crane can only lift that weight in a straight lift, as soon as he jibs out that weight decreases rapidly. We estimated our boat weight at 5.5 tons and that a 25 ton crane could do the job. On the day the crane driver brought a 35 tonner as the 25 t was unavailable, good job too as she weighed in at 7.5 t on the hook and the radiuus was greater than anticipated plus at that he only just made the lift!! All alarms going and some!
