Boat toilet cleaner

What to use that wont damage seals etc on our manual toilet? Not worried about limescale removal, just ordinary toilet cleaning.

I use white vinegar for the heads (as recommend by 'The Headmistress') and most interior cleaning. About £1 for five litres at the cash and carry.

A flush through with washing up liquid doesn't do any harm. At the end of a weekend we usually give ours a clean with the Starbrite stuff, which seems to lubricate the pump as well.

I can concurr, White vineagar is quite good . It did bring back apprentiship memories of having to strip the units down during the winter layups ...God awfull job !!!

Many thanks. In the interests of economy its gotta be worth giving the white vinegar/washing up liquid method a try in the first instance at least.

Sorry chaps. SWMBO has sent me back to ask the question that should have occurred to me......but didn't. Should the white vinegar be used neat or diluted with water? Thanks again.

Just run it around the bowl and then rinse with fresh water and flush through.

We used to do a citric toilet cleaner - made from citric acid. It was safe on seals etc Due to lack of demand we stopped having it made but let me know if there is a demand and I will get more.

We use Ecover. for general heads, sink etc... cleaning.

White vinegar with a little chlorine in it. You need not scrub it with a scouring pad.

Depending on your toilet be very careful...

Some of the "plastic" toilets can react to ordinary household cleaners. I have known of some toilets to heavily craze due to reaction with normal houshold cleaners. Only use the reccommended cleaners - but hey, vinegar should be fine....

Fill bowl with fresh water, pour in some ferronet, sulfaman, agua forte, (basically hydrochloric acid), leave for an hour, pump through half, leave for another hour, pump out, flush with sea water, twice, hey presto clean, de-scaled and disinfected toilet! I also use dettol on the toilet brush each use, leaves a pleasant smell and disinfects.
