Boat Survey

I Guess it depends on the area you live in, the surveyor you select, they tend to charge for mileage too. The YDSA have a forumla that uses length and beam and maybe some other factors (I'm not exactly sure) to calculate the fees.

Depending on how in depth you require it to be I'd have been surprised on 40 foot if less than 500 or more than a grand. For 30 foot I'd think about 300 to 700.

where abouts are you? Its well worth finding a surveyor that understands wooden boats IMHO. Seen some surveys of wooden boats and could of written better myself. (including the one we got when we bought pansy) Got ours redone a couple of months ago by Jonathon Jackson, who was recommended by our insurers (Simon Winter) and a few other folks. he's based barrow in furness, but is all over the north east coast quite regularly and was very reasonable. It was an in-water survey, we're 46' and it was £250. full out of the water he'd be around the 400 quid mark

Another vote for John Lilley if you are South-West based, he was vey helpful. It's well worth a look at his site given above as it shows what to expect from the survey.
