boat surveillance camera on the quay?

With mobile Internet you end up having to use a 3rd party proxy server and these get incredibly busy to the point where you never know whether the lack of functionality is down to your equipment / install or the third party server. In the end we gave up.

thanks all for your contributions,

Henry explains here above why the idea with mobile internet in that direction (no fixed IP adress...) won't work reliably or satisfactory.

now we are considering, ( or looking for a existing system on the market,)
so that the wifi camera and a small PC will be programmed to "upload" pictures (fe every 10 or 20 secs) through the mobile internet router to a fixed webpage.
Could this work, using a system in this (other) direction ? any sugestions for equipment to use ?

the marina has no available wifi network

re privacy aspects,
I don't worry, as the boat is "In" the marine, (private area) and the camera can be pointed to the stern of the boat "only"

Cant say I have experienced the same problems.

The link to the camera I sent you before will do what you ask without the need of a laptop. I would highly recommend internal storage whatever you go for.:)

Hi Pete,

thanks for coming back on this,

My mate, IT manager on the boat ;), believes there will be issues going from my laptop, through the net, in to the 3G router on the boat (no fixed IP adress). For that exists workarounds, but then you might still have problems opening the right gates on the net for going to that router ?
how do you handle this on the camera's you're using ?

don't worry on the CCTV footage aspect, there is a alarm system on the boat, there are other reasons for having that camera,
ao,
in november there has been a very strong mistral in that area, one of my mooring ropes was broken (all handled ok by the capitainery),
but I would like to be able to see what's going on in such a case.
and if a simple solution is available for that ...

just looked at your link more in detail, (first thought it was just another wifi camera)
It seems that this system could cope with the problem I described in my previous post. We will investigate further

many thanks again !
