I have just seen on the local news that a boat has sunk outside Portishead marina. Does anyone know any details? We are planning to head up to Lydney and would feel safer if I could use Portishead if we can't make Cardiff Lydney in one tide.

Interesting. As we left Portishead on the tide we passed that boat just as it was approaching the end of the mole. Must have hit the putty very shortly afterwards but we never heard anything on the VHF and I think I had it on.

Boat looked like an old "tore out", a bit like a tripper boat built on an old wooden hull with an afte cover for passengers. But it certainly wasnt labouring or obviously in trouble. I wonder what actually happened.

It's out of the way now. It's lying against the old wooden "wall" in The Hole now. There's no issue accessing Portishead marina now. I was down there this evening.

Boat sunk at portishead

Hi All
I was talking to one of the lads on that boat today, They got into trouble with engine cutting out and needed to get to a safe heaven to make repair as the tide was on the run. They contacted portishead marina for help only to be told the marina was full and would not let them in and told they could make good on the wall outside the marina as the bed was good and flat. When in the night at low tide the boat was holed rolled on to its side. The rest is history. If this is the case what happened to helping a boat in trouble, shame on you portishead marina.

I think you will find there is good reason why they were not allowed in. (If true).

I have heard one being no insurance, and another being they did not want to pay for berthing!

there were some dudes aboard at the weekend. it stunk of diesel, the pumps were going and the water was like a rainbow as far as the eye could see.... looks like they have repaired it and are ready to set sail again. to be fair though it only looks fit for nov 5th

boat sunk at portishead

Hi All
I am just saying they were in trouble and needed some help , They had made contact with the coastguard and the marina before heading for portishead.

they must be known and have previous, the marina is never that full, you used to be able to go on the wall down the one side years ago, and i could have no insurance for all they know and they let me in so they must have form..lol.

I don't believe solitaire 11 could make a staitment they must have FORM with out knowing the persons involved. With comments like that you are starting to sound like the labour party. The person who purchased the boat and was on board has never been to portishead marina before or the others on board. I am not going to waste any more time on your comments.

Well just one more. Firstly im not your mate. Secondly it is not my boat if you read my profile ive got a westerly. I am not going to stoop to your level of comments so im going to leave it at that and bid you good night happy sailing sorry moboing.
