Finding this dilemma a real nuisance. Every time I use the freshwater shower I will not know what level of water there is in the tank. The water tank is very hard to reach and see and im finding this matter very inconvenient. I would not like to run the shower on an empty tank therefore resulting in burning the pump, so every time i go fishing I will take 10 litres of freshwater to put in the tank after fishing :nonchalance:.Is there something I could do in order to monitor the level of the water in the freshwater tank.? Thanks for the input guys.

Most tanks are prepared for fitment of a standard level gauge.

Cut-out and bolt pattern are standard so provided you can get to the tank, fitment is pretty straightforward. To avoid the gauge from using power at all times you might connect it to the water pump switch

Eg.

I'm sure the forum software removed #2's link to a number of water level sensors which are available on ebay

A variety of sensors available, from optical, hydrostatic, float, sound, etc etc.

Is your tank metal or plastic ? Do you have electricity available ? Can you see th etank easily without removing buck cushions etc.

A few more details would be helpful.

Thanks for your reply but would like some more info how to do it. Tank is under deck and hard to see let alone work in tank. should I remove the deck, install sensor in tank and re install deck? would be a very hectic job in removing deck console etc etc

tank is plastic and under deck. not easy to reach. re electricity im not sure if it was installed with a sensor or not cause boat is new and I need to experiment more. but yes I have a battery and a back up battery.

If it is really difficult to access the tank, what about inserting a flexible pipe into the inlet filler and checking the level manually ?

Get to know how much water is in the tank by the sound of tapping it ?

Can you shine a torch on it and see the level by total internal reflection ?

How do they work then? Is there some sort of calibration process you follow?

No, you specify depth of tank when ordering and simply T it into outlet, so plug and play.
These are used in quite a few production boats, Fairline used for fuel where not possible to get to top of tanks, Sunseeker use them as well. A friend designed and makes them and suggested I try one as in my small tank there is no way of fitting a float sensor as bunk board rests on top, I was impressed how easy it was to install.

Thanks mate. interesting. will enquire about this product. So the thing attaches in the pipe between tank and pump? am I right?

Yes, as simple as that, comes with push fit T although other fittings are also available, will post some pictures later when back at boat.
